    A sister for Hazel

We're searching for a name for Hazel Iona's baby sister, due at the end of August.
Our two favorites are Ivy and Ada.
I'd especially love suggestions for middle names.

    xoxo Thanks!

    Hi!

Out of Ivy and Ada, I'd choose Ada, for sure. I worry if you choose Ivy you will get stuck in a pattern of having to use nature names as first names, and you might not like any more, right? Anyway, I happen to know a family with three children - a toddler named Hazel and twin babies named Felix and Ada! Are you saying Ada as 'add-uh' or 'A-duh'?

As for middle names, one of the birth flowers for August is the poppy, so you could sneak in a nature name as a middle name. Ada Poppy is cute with Hazel Iona! Or, if you want another Scottish name like Iona, here are ideas:

    Ada Greer
    Ada Lilias
    Ada Maisie
    Ada Muriel (Muireall)
    Ada Paisley

Other first names I think would be cute are Alice, Clara, Charlotte, Diana, Frances, Gwyneth, Margo, Olive, Phoebe, Sylvie, and Tess...

    Thanks Lemon!

    We'd pronounce it "A-duh" (after a spunky, English great-aunt).
Sylvie and Olive are also on our short list.
Big Sister (4) Hazel has been pushing for Clara!
    Will give these some thought.

Well, you're Hazel has impeccable taste, I'd say! Even though I suggested it, I think Olive is too much nature next to Hazel, too - like Ivy. Sylvie is just different and fun! And, I like the way you pronounce Ada! The people I know with Hazel, Felix, and Ada pronounce it as "add-uh."

    Re: A sister for Hazel

Out of Ivy and Ada, I'd definitely go with Ada. Ivy is lovely but way too matchy. Hazel and Ada do have the similar long A at the beginning, though. I really like Clara with Hazel, and Sylvie is also lovely. What about:

    Josephine
    Theresa
    Fiona
    Helen (too similar?)
    Frances
    Margaret
    Eloise
    Daphne
    Vivian
    Charlotte
    Cora
    Ida
    Lila
    Emmeline
    Rosemary (too matchy?)
    Beatrix
    Tabitha
    Jane
    cordelia ~ jessamine ~ alice ~ louisa ~ maeve ~ julia ~ eloise ~ fiona ~ genevieve
    matthias ~ william ~ henry ~ finn ~ benjamin ~ frederick ~ leander
