    Matilda instead of Hilda?

Hi, everyone! I have a dear aunt Hilda, whom I love, and I would like to honor her, but it would seem that Hilda may be one of the few old lady names that can't be revived, even from the perspective of nameberries.

Would Matilda be a good substitute, or is it just too different from Hilda?

Also, would Matilda be a good name with brother Tobias (Tobey)? Or, is Tobey and Tillie (the nickname we would probably use) too cute by half?

    TIA!

I love Matilda with Tobias! I think it definitely honors a Hilda, since the two names both come from the German element hild, meaning 'battle'. You could even use Hilda as a nickname for Matilda.

I think that Matilda is a great way to honor a Hilda! You could also spell it Mathilda, if Matilda is too much of a stretch...

I love Matilda with Tobias! Tillie and Tobey are a bit too cutesy, though... If Matilda went by Tillie ALL the time and Tobias Tobey, I would be worried, but otherwise, it would be fine.

    A few middle name ideas:
    Matilda Violet
    Matilda Jane
    Matilda Charlotte
    Matilda June
    Matilda Caroline
    Matilda Scarlett
    Matilda Lucy
    Matilda Margaret
    Matilda Juniper
    Matilda Iris
    Matilda Cecily
    Matilda Juliet
    Matilda Genevieve
    Matilda Guinevere
    Matilda Gwendolen (or Gwendolyn)
    Matilda Penelope
    Matilda Phoebe
    Matilda Xanthe
    Matilda Chloe
    Matilda Zoe
    Matilda Helen
    Matilda Poppy
    Matilda Verity
    Matilda Felicity
    Matilda Clementine
    Matilda Beatrix (or Beatrice)

    Good luck! :)

As I recall, a classic spell for the name is Mathilde, so you could even spell it Mathilda, so that the whole name Hilda is a part of it.

Please spell Matilda as Mathilde or Matilda they are both pronounced the same way. I dislike Mathilda immensely.

Matilda is brilliant with Tobias, what a wonderful sibset, kudos to you for that combo. I love it!!

    Matilda could be Mattie also.

Love the spelling of Toby, it is perfect. A gorgeous name.
