    Re: Basil?

I never thought of Red as a nickname for Frederick, I like it a lot. I love Fred and Freddy/Freddie. I like Fritz for other people, but if I had a Frederick he'd be Freddy. So unassuming, but unexpected at the same time. I can't imagine not liking a boy called Freddy. I also like Rico. The more I think about Red, the more I like it. I might be able to convince Chris of that. I always tell him that Frederick is my favorite name, and he doesn't believe me. I think it is, though. In the same way that I think Elizabeth is my favorite girls name. Not exciting or unusual, just classic and gorgeous.

I think Frederick "Red" (or Freddy) would be so cool with Dashiell "Dash." I think that Frederick is so handsome! I completely understand what you're saying about Frederick and Elizabeth. That's the way I feel about Anne as a first name. As much as I love other, more complicated names, I keep coming back to Anne.

Oh! I made a thread to celebrate Dash's Birthday! I hope he likes his gifts. ;-)

Wow, front row for Julie Andrews?! Amazing! If you ever go to San Francisco you must visit the Musee Mechanique, it's where the arm is. It's a free little museum filled with fun old stuff like that arm and fortune telling machines and such, it's like a vintage arcade. It's at Fisherman's Wharf.

I am definitely going to make that dip, it sounds delicious! And so simple! Once I made peanut butter and fluff pinwheels, they were good but they looked a mess. It would work better to make this dip and spread it on the tortillas. That would be delish.

That is too bad about Quillen... though, who actually knows that name? You could probably get away with just telling people it's pronounced quill-en... who would make the correction? I think you invented the name Quillem for me a while back. I still love that.

Hmm, Whittaker... I've never considered that. It reminds me a lot of Forest... but it's a much better way to get the nickname Whit than Whitney.

Yeah, front row! So close, yet so far away. It was amazing! I've been to Fisherman's Wharf before, but never the museum with the mechanical arm. I'll have to go there.

Oh! Quilliam is a real name! It's the Irish form of William, from what I know. (But knowing about Quill being pronounced like Kill, it sounds like Kill Liam!)

    Did you see Dash's b-day thread? :-)

Dash and Red is so retro fabulous! The more I think about it the more I love it!

Anne is a fantastic first name. My grandma is Ann (though I prefer it with the e) and it's certainly worked for her her whole life! It lends itself to sweet, personal nicknames so nicely. Her family called her May Ann since she was born in May and there was another Ann in the family. Most people call her Ann, but my granddaddy always called her Annie. I always loved the way he said her name with so much love. Sometimes he said "Annie Girl", and it gave me a picture of what they must have been like when they were a young couple. (haha, *wipes tear*)

I love Anne, I hope you use it someday. I know this doesn't flow well at all, but I like the combo Anne Eliza. Anne and Henry would make a great sibset :-)

I am heading over to Dash's birthday thread now, thank you so much!

I'm glad you like Red, and I hope it will convince Chris that Frederick is a great name. :-)

I loved reading about your grandma. Your grandparents sound like a great couple. I love that he called her Annie Girl, because it reminds me of Anne of Green Gables (she was called Anne Girl by Diana's aunt). :-)

Every Anne I've ever known has been sweet, warm, fun, energetic, etc., and I love Annie. As much as I love Annabelle/Annabel, I keep coming back to Anne. :-)

I love Anne and Henry together! :-) I've always loved Anne Victoria... I love Eliza so much as a first name! Eliza Genevieve and Eliza Jane are my favorites.

    I can't believe that Dash is 1! That's crazy!!!!

    Re: Basil?

Chris gave Frederick nn Red an 8/10 the first time I mentioned it, with the possibility of it going up! That is good news! He said I can never call him Fred, Freddy or Frederick, though, haha, but I think he was mostly joking.

My mom said "That's not nearly as cool as Dash". I know what she means, but I love them together.

    What about this?
    Dashiell nn Dash
    Frederick nn Red
Elizabeth nn Betsey (or maybe Betty Ann, his new favorite name)
Marigold nn Goldie OR Magnolia nn Maxie/Moxie/Maggie

I prefer Marigold, he prefers Magnolia (though I love both). I love Goldie more than any of the Magnolia nicknames, though I could get my beloved Moxie (but he likes Maggie most, and I think Maggie is too normal with Dash).

Eight out of ten? Go, Red! :-) I love your list! I love the Goldie and Moxie nicknames with Dash!

Did he have a good birthday? I hope he enjoyed his day! :-)

    Talk to you later!
