    Celestial/space inspired names

I loved the post (and responses) seeking an unusual religious/spiritual name. I'd like to explore celestial or space inspired names for girls, with or without a religious connotation. I can think of Stella and Luna offhand. Stella I love. Luna I have reservations about because of the teasing possibilities of lunatic. What other suggestions do you clever people have? Thanks!

    Re: Celestial/space inspired names

I'm a bit of an astronomy nut, so I adore celestial names :)

I've tried not to repeat ones that Jill mentioned.

Of course, there is Celeste and Celestia, and also Cosmo for a boy (which reminds me of the unrelated but cosmological sounding Cosima for a girl).

    Names meaning moon :
    Chandra (Sanskrit)
    Lucine (Armenian)
    Marama (Maori)
    Selene (sell-ee-nee, Greek)

    Moon goddesses :
    Artemis
    Cynthia
    Diana
    Rhiannon

    Names meaning star :
    Astra/Astraea
    Esther
    Estrella (Spanish word names, ess-tray-uh)
    Tara

    Names of moons :
    Amalthe
    Ananka
    Belinda
    Bianca
    Callisto
    Calypso
    Carme (kar-mee)
    Cordelia
    Cressida
    Desdemona
    Dione
    Elara
    Europa
    Ganymede
    Helene
    Himalia
    Io
    Juliet
    Leda
    Lysithea
    Metis
    Miranda
    Nereid
    Ophelia
    Pandora
    Phoebe
    Portia
    Rhea
    Rosalind
    Sinope (sin-ope-ee)
    Telesto
    Tethys
    Thebe (thee-be)
    Titania

    Asteroids :
    Ceres
    Cybele (si-bell)
    Pallas
    Persephone
    Vesta

    Goddess of dawn :
    Eos

    Constellations :
    Andromeda
    Antlia
    Ara
    Carina
    Columba
    Lyra
    Pyxis

The Pleiades (stars in the constellation of Taurus) :
    Alcyone (al-see-own-ee)
    Celaeno
    Electra
    Maia
Merope (mer-oh-pee; the dimmest star, because she married a mortal)
    Sterope
    Taygete.
The Pleiades were seven sisters, who Zeus transformed into stars so that they could escape Orion, who was persuing them. Eventually, Orion became a constellation, and to this day he still pursues them across the night sky.

The Hyades (more Greek sisters who became stars) :
    Ambrosia
    Coronis
    Eudora
    Phaesyla
    Polyxo.

Constellation nn Stella (not sure if I'm serious on this)

    Star/Starr

Estrella (Spanish for star, main character of excellent Alice Hoffman book Incantation)

    Venus (unfortunate teases though)

Ceres (name of dwarf planet and goddess of something)

Calista/Callista (like Callisto, one of Jupiter's moons)

Rhea (pronounced RAY or ray-UH, moon of Saturn)

    Titania (moon of Uranus)
