    Gideon
    Gabriel
James (S ending like Elias, though)
    Nathaniel
    Raphael
    Samson

Aristotle: I know it's Greek like Elias, but it's pretty "out there" to me, but then again, I think it depends on where you live. At the very least, I think it would make a cool middle name.

More Greek names you may like:

    Alexander (popular, though)

    Basil
    Sebastian (Latin from Greek)
Theodore (I love Theodore with Elias!)

    Calvin
    Conrad
    Dashiell

    Franklin

    Milo
    Oliver
    Peter
Simon (then again, it has Elias' S and long I sounds...)
    Theodore
    Victor

Pascal: I can't help but think of the Pascal lamb, so I like some of your other names more...(I think some of the others work better with Elias, too...)

    Girls:
Clementine: I love Clementine, and think that Cleo is a great nickname.

Edith: I like some of your others more...

Sadie: I can better see some other names with Elias...

    Scarlett: I really love Scarlett!

Stella: I think it's a great name, but because it contains "el," I think it's too similar to Elias.

Tessa: I think it's very pretty...

Violet: I love Violet, but I can personally better see a name that doesn't share Elias' long I sound.

More names you may like with Elias:

    Daphne
    Flora
    Genevieve (nn Evie)

Re: Need help... Baby Due Jan. 15!

    Boys:
    Abraham - quite nice.
Aristotle - I love this as a name, but I do think that it would probably be too much for a child to carry off.
Cormac - I love, love, love this one! You may also like Cedric or Lorcan.
Leo - I adore. Handsome and fairly unusual. It also works as a nn for Leopold, Leonine or Leonard (lenn-ard), and similar names are Louis, Hugo and Inigo.
Pascal - I'm not as fond of this one.

My vote goes to Leo, with Cormac in second place.

    Girls:
    Clementine - beautiful.
Edith - I think Edith is such an unusual, vintage choice, and the nn Edie is just adorable.
Sadie - sassy, but it doesn't feel like a whole name to me.
Scarlett - rising in popularity. I can see the appeal, but to me it's always seemed a little blatantly risque ... perhaps I'm just being fusty :)
Stella - I just can't get on board with this one ... it feels dated to me. Sorry!
    Tessa - so pretty.
Violet - I love. It is rising in popularity, but still - it is beautiful, feminine and spunky.
Adeline - I like this one, but it's ruined a little for me by the rising popularity of -lyn names at the moment.
    Brighid - nice.
Charlotte - a classic choice, with the sweet nn Lottie.
    Eleanor - beautiful.
Viola - a pretty and less popular alternative to Violet, although I can see it garnering the same sort of attention soon, because it also reminds me of Olivia.

My vote is for Eleanor, Tessa or Edith. I think Violet would work well as a mn for all of those, too.

    Good luck!

Re: Need help... Baby Due Jan. 15!

I would advise your friend to change her baby's name from Carl to something cool. Maybe Carlo. The magic "o" can change everything! Or how about Charles nn Charlie? Names are very, very important. Why go through life with a clunky name? Carl is just not in style right now.

    I love Elias!
Love Leo, but Eli and Leo are kind of hard to say together.
    With Elias, I love

    Girls
    Cecily
    Daphne - Greek like Elias
Edith - love it! Clunky name, but oh, so cool.
    Frances - ditto
    Georgia - Greek
    Helena - Greek
Irene - Greek, clunky, but getting cool. Use it if you dare.
    Iris - Greek
    Josephine
    Leona
    Melina - Greek
    Olive
    Phoebe - Greek
Tessa - another poster suggested this, and I agree
    Willa

    Boys
Abraham nn Bram - great choice on your list
    Archer
Chester - a clunky but cool name, not like Carl
    Dexter - ditto
    Edwin - ditto
    Frank
    George - Greek
    Henry
Nicholas nn Cole - but this is a lot more overdone than Elias. Still it is a very nice name.
    Oliver - Latin, love
Peter - the best name ever and it's Greek
    Philip - Greek, great name
    Simon
    Theodore nn Theo
    Victor
Walter - very clunky name, I think it is on the road to being cool.

Love Edith, Daphne, Frances, Phoebe, Oliver, Abraham, and Theodore
    with Elias nn Eli.

Re: Need help... Baby Due Jan. 15! (more help?)

We want to thank you all again! Shout outs go to list makers with great analysis to meryl, jill (again!), twinkle, and susan... but great thanks to everyone!!

So thanks to you all, we are narrowing, and these are our favorites...with some comments and this time we included nn as a way of pairing with our son Elias / nn Eli

    Boys:
Abraham / Bram (love the nn, worried about the association with beard)
    Archibald/ Archie
    August/ Augie
    Calvin / Cal
Cormac / nn? (love this name, but does it go with Elias?)
Leopold or Leonardo / Leo (love this nn, but not crazy about the choices of the name)
    Lorenzo / Enzo
Theodore / Theo (like it, but like Leo better!)
    Truman / nn?

Girls (somehow getting longer, not shorter!)
    Adeline / Addie
Brighid / Bridey (love this nn!)
    Charlotte / Lottie
    Clementine / Cleo
Edith / Edie (sentimental choice due to grandma -- too clunky?)
Eleanor / Ellie (very similar to Eli though)
Estelle / Stella (gives the nn some beauty we think)
Evangeline / Evie (a nod to grandma, but with our own spin?)
    Liliana / Lily (too popular?)
Lucinda / Lucy (not crazy for Lucinda, but love Lucy)
Sarah / Sadie (another grandma name, but we like the nn)
    Scarlett / nn?
Theresa / Tess/ Tessa (don't love the name, but do love the nn's.)
Viola / nn? (took Violet off the list b/c of a friend's baby)
    Willow / nn? (too alternativae?)

Thanks again! You all are great... the plan is to go to dinner tonight with our lists and start crossing off five at a time, then one at a time, until we have our final two! So any more help, helps!
