    Variations of Ruby?

Hi! My husband and I are expecting a daughter. We want to name her after his foster mother, an amazing woman named Ruby who practically raised him in place of his parents. The problem is: he doesn't much care for the name of itself. Are there any other variations out there, or perhaps names that mean Ruby? Thank you all and God bless.

Would you consider using Ruby as a middle name?

We have strongly considered it, yes; that will probably be the path we choose if we cannot find a suitable way to honor her up front. We just would really love having the name out front for the world to see :) It's what she deserves.

    Re: Variations of Ruby?

I think Ruby is so sweet, and a variation that comes to mind is Rubina.

Other names that are associated with red:

    Scarlett
    Rose
    Rosalie
Rory (which could even be a nickname for Aurora)
    Rowan

Ruth or Ruthie have Ruby's Roo sound, and mean "compassionate friend," and it sounds like your husband's Ruby was a compassionate woman.

You could also give her R.B. intials, such as Rosalie Blythe or Rosalie Belle.

Another idea, could be to use a name that has a meaning related to this special Ruby, such as:

Gemma: it means "precious stone," which applies to Ruby the stone and Ruby the actual, precious woman.
    Annabelle: it means "loving"
    Esme: beloved

    Good luck! :-)

I will add Garnet into the mix.
