Thanks for sharing this list. Is there a web site where we can find this info for other years? Would love to keep up with name trends in the Netherlands.

P.S. am very curious about the name Madelief. Is it related to Madeline? Could you provide any history or background about this name? Thanks!
Also Silke? It looks so much like the English word 'silk' -- don't know how it's pronounced. Lovely!

Re: Top 100 Girls names in The Netherlands

I don't have the link of that list anymore... But I just googled it and found out it was actually an old list! The newest list you can find here: http://www.babyvoornamen.nl/Pages/To...spx?geslacht=m

    And:
Madelief is the Dutch word for Daisy ;) We pronounce it: mah-duh-leaf.
Silke is actually a German name. I searched for the meaning on Google: Silke means 'heavenly''. But I also think it might be from the English word 'silk'! It is pronounced: Sil - ke (like the 'k' in Kate...)
    * edited to add: I just read that Silke could also be short for Caecilia or a female form of the Frysian name Sil.

Really interesting! It's great seeing names like Noa and Maud in the list. I'm also struck by the Senna, Sanne, Fenna, Fenne trend. I suppose it's equivalent to Emma, Ella, Bella etc

It seems like the diminutives / nicknames trend is hot all over Europe at the moment. ;)
