Re: Expecting Second Daughter and Need Name Expertise!

I like your idea of working from the nn:

Addie - I would avoid using another "a" name
    Allie
    Carrie - Caroline
    Della - Cordelia, Delia, Delphine
Bella - Clarabella, Isabella, Corabella, Gabriella
    Ellie - Eleanor
    Emmie - Emmeline
    Gracie - Graciela
    Hattie - Henrietta
    Maddie - Madeline
    Maggie - Magdalena, Margaret
    Mattie - Matilda
    Nellie - Eleanor, Helena, Penelope
    Penny - Penelope
    Polly - Penelope
    Rosie - Rosamund, Rosalind
    Susie - Susannah
    Tillie - Matilda

My favorites: Penelope (Penny, Poppy, Nellie), Eleanor (Ellie, Nellie), Helena (Nellie, Lena)
I would go with a short and cute mn to match Kate. Ideas: June, Jane, Claire, Grace, Pearl, Rose, Belle...

    I like these nns:

    Addie
    Allie
    Carrie
    Della
Bella (you could make this one Isabella. Annie and Bella sound really good together and Isabella and Annelise go really well together)
    Dolly
    Dottie
    Ellie
    Emmie
    Gracie
    Hattie
Katie (can't use again, but still like it)
Lizzie (my mn is Elizabeth and prefer not to use it again)
    Maddie
    Maggie
    Mattie
    Molly
    Nellie
    Penny
    Polly
    Rosie
    Sally
    Susie
    Tillie

Re: Expecting Second Daughter and Need Name Expertise!

I really like your daughters names Annelise Kate! Very beautiful! I personally love the name Adelaide and will be using it on one of my daughters in the upcoming months (also Matilda).

I thought that I would add a few more names to the nickname list already compiled and add a few more of my comments. :-)

Addie: Adeline*, Adelia, Addison (unisex to your Annelise) Adelaide*

Allie: Alice (but it sound a lot like Annalise to me, with the same beginning and similar ending), Allegra. Alexandra (but seems pretty popular)

Carrie: Caroline*, Carolina, Charlotte (stretch, but have known some Charlottes, nn Carrie)

Della: Delphine* (a French floral name), Adelaide*, Delilah*

    Bella: Arabella, Mirabelle, Isabella*

    Dolly: Dahlia, Dorothy*, Dolores, Gwendolyn

Dottie: Dorothy* (I have a Dorothy/Dottie and its not as stuffy sounding when you have a little one skipping around), Dorothea

Ellie: Eleanor*, Eliza, Mirabelle, Rosalie* (a bit of stretch to get Ellie, but the ending is so similar in sound), Ellen, Helen, Ella, Elsa

Emmie: Emmeline*, Clementine* (has Em in the middle, but I think you said you don't care for this name), Emily* (so popular, but great name), Emerald, Emmaline

    Gracie: Grace, Graciella

    Hattie: Henrietta, Harriet

Katie (can't use again, but still like it)

Lizzie (my mn is Elizabeth and prefer not to use it again): Eliza, Lisette*

Maddie: Madeleine, Matilda*, Madeline*, Madison, Madonna

    Maggie: Magnolia*, Marigold, Margaret*, Marjorie

    Mattie: Matilda*, Martha

    Molly: Margaret, Mary

Nellie: Penelope*, Helen, Helena*, or just simply Nell. Annelise (lol), Eleanor*, Cornelia

    Penny: Penelope*, Aspen

Polly: I love this name by itself!, Pollyanna, Mary, Paulina

Rosie: Rose, Rosalie*, Rosalind*, Rosamund, Rosaline*, Rosaleen, Rosemary, Rosemarie*, Rosa, Rosetta, Rosette, Roseline*

Sally: I love this name by itself, and also as a nickname for Sarah.

    Susie: I love Susannah*!, Susan,

    Tillie: Matilda* and Ottilie, Clotilde

Good luck! Can't wait to hear what you pick!

Wow guys! Thanks so much for the name lists! I went from having just Adelaide, to millions of suggestions! I read through all your suggestions and have compiled the following list of "keepers":

Annelise and Adelaide* (still LOVE Adelaide)
Annelise and Caroline (very classy name!)
    Annelise and Charlotte (very classy)
Annelise and Delilah (like, but name is tainted by radio host - might be able to get over that)
Annelise and Dorothy (Warming up to Dorothy... )
Annelise and Isabelle (It's really pretty together, but I already have 3 friends with Bellas/Isabellas)
    Annelise and Eleanor

I am really liking your combinations! (I think that we have very similar tastes)

As far as Annelise and Adelaide go, I think that they DO sound good together and they do like you said have similar backgrounds (German heritage and datedness, etc) and even the same amount of letters. I think that they are different enough for them not to be too matchy, especially in their full format. But, Annie and Addie are kind of similar and if you do have a third daughter, it will be hard to name her because I can't think of another name that would go well with those two. Would probably have to be an Allie name. But, that being said, you could also call them Anna and Ada, Annie and Della, Annie and Heidi and then more possibilities could open up.

Out of your other name combos, these are my favorite:

    Annelise Kate and Charlotte Jane
    Annelise Kate and Emmeline Claire
    Annelise Kate and Rosemarie Pearl
    Annelise Kate and Roseline Pearl
    Annelise Kate and Roseline June
    Annelise Kate and Roseline Claire
    Annelise Kate and Clementine Jane
    Annelise Kate and Violette June
    Annelise Kate and Violette Pearl
    Annelise Kate and Matilda Pearl
    Annelise Kate and Matilda Ruby
    Annelise Kate and Matilda Rose
    Annelise Kate and Delilah Pearl

I could go on forever... Do you like any??
