Re: Confident Middle Name for Vanessa?

    You're welcome, Erika! :-)

I do like the Shakespearean Miranda, as well as Eleanor. (I love Eleanora, too.)

Charlotte: I picture sweet, elegant, and well-behaved.

Vanessa: I picture a less innocent young lady with a sultry or wild side. She has a taste for drama and the arts, too.

Miranda: Much like charlotte, I picture a sweet child and lovely young lady. (I don't picture Miranda from Sex and the City.) I find this name so romantic. (Do you like Celia, too?)

Eleanor: Eleanor is akin to Charlotte and Miranda for me. Vanessa has that exotic touch not found in the other names.

    Keep us posted! :-)

I have good associations with all those names; all sound friendly and bright. Beyond that, of the four, I think of Miranda as a little more artistic or romantic, Vanessa as a little sassier or more sophisticated, Charlotte as a little more traditional and/or sweet, and Eleanor as a little more intellectual (possibly because to me it sounds the most dated so it's a bit of a wild card, but still an elegant name).

    Teabee,

Funny how we want to ascribe certain characteristics onto our children; be it sassyness, intellect, or sweetness. I'm a musician and teacher, so love a little bit of fiesty personality brought into the mix.

My husband, on the other hand surprised me with his fairly 'safe' choices. His top picks are Charlotte and Eleanor, mine Vanessa and Miranda.

I do love Eleanor, but more so, Eleanora, or Lenora, even Elinor (from J.Austen). My name ends in 'a', and have to say, I prefer it. Any other alternatives?

What direction would you go in for nicknames for these four names? Are nicknames necessary? (I never grew up with one)

Thanks again for responding to the thread!

    Erika

    Hi Again Jill,

Once more, thanks for your input. Are there any names that you could recommend that are in the same style, with a hint more personality? I love names ending in 'a'. Not too common, but definitely not overly avant-garde or trendy. Perhaps in the middle position, to add a bit more oomph?

    What do you think of

    Luisa
Angelica or Anjelica (as in Huston)
    Elise
    Zara

Hmm, nicknames, good question. I don't think they're necessary and they can just as easily show up without relation to a name (for good or for bad). Sometimes as a child I wanted a nickname, but in the end I can say I've been happy without one--for the record, I'm Rachelle, so nicknames weren't too obvious.

    Miranda - Mira?
    Vanessa - Van, Vanny, Nessa
    Charlotte - Char, Charlie, Lottie?
    Eleanor - El, Ellen, Nora

P.S. I like Lenora! Of course, I'm seriously partial to names that end with "a"
