help, please!
hello,
i've been lurking for a couple of months, but have been bored at home today and decided to come out of hiding to solicit your sage advice! :)
i am expecting -- don't yet know the sex -- and am somewhat stumped on boy names.
i have a sneaking suspicion that most of "my" names will be real nose-wrinklers for most everyone here, but please keep an open mind and be gentle!
i also have a kinda weird contingency plan with some of these that i'll note in parenthesis.
so far, we have:
clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy -- don't laugh!)
ira (for a dark haired kid)
george (if he's blondish -- not sure why george is blonde in my mind, but he is)
holland
barnaby
my last name is, uh, rather easy to figure out -- three syllables, french and starts with an L. :)
the middle name will be singer, regardless of the first.
and because i know some of you like to take siblings into consideration, i have a daughter named birdie.
thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!

Re: help, please!
Hi there! I'm so glad you came out of the darkness! :-) None of your names are nose-wrinklers for me, and I'm guessing a lot of Nameberry posters will agree! :-) Birdie is darling, by the way...
clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy -- don't laugh!): I think Clyde is a really cool name, and like Clive, Clifton, and Conrad too.
ira (for a dark haired kid): I prefer Clyde, but it would be cute to see a little Ira!
george: I LOVE George!
holland: For me, Holland feels like a trendy girls' first name, but this may just be me! :-)
barnaby: Not a total nose-wrinkler :-) for me, but I just don't care for Barney as a nickname.
Of your choices, George is my favorite, with Clyde in second place!
Other ideas just for fun:
Clive
Clifton
Conrad
Chester
Augustin
Atticus
Dashiell
Edward
Ezra
Gabriel
Hugo
Jasper
Leo
Milo
Magnus
Nathaniel
Silas
Theodore
Thaddeus
Truman
Wilson
I'm sure others will be along soon!
Good luck! :-)

Re: help, please!
clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy -- don't laugh!)- i like this a lot, and it's my favorite with Birdie. Birdie and Clyde sounds so cute, ooh, except it sounds a little like Bonnie and Clyde, people will probably notice that, but it's still cute.
ira (for a dark haired kid)- not my cup of tea.
george- interesting that George is blonde to you, he's a brunette for me! I absolutely adore George and if I hadn't been sedated right after my baby was born and my husband hadn't been calling him Dash for 5 hours the first time I met him, I would have wanted to name him George.
holland- i agree with Jill about this sounding like a trendy girls name.
barnaby- I always hear the lyric 'listen, Barnaby' from the song "Put on Your Sunday Clothes", and it makes me very happy!
George is my top choice, then I'm torn between Barnaby and Clyde. I Think George Singer and Barnaby Singer sound amazing. Clyde Singer isn't quite as good. Ira Singer reminds me of a sewing machine (sorry!), Holland Singer is nice, but I like your other choices a lot more.
Good Luck!----------------------------------------

Re: help, please!
thanks so much for the input, ladies!
funny that holland is a trendy girls name to both of you -- in my family it's a stuffy old man name!
also, ira is our "good jewish name." beautiful, i think, but obvious that sentiment doesn't really carry cross-culturally, ha.

Re: help, please!
clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy -- don't laugh!) - this is a cool name! I have an Uncle Clyde. Clyde is a river in Scotland.
ira (for a dark haired kid) - my brother-in-law's name. I just think of him.
george (if he's blondish -- not sure why george is blonde in my mind, but he is) - I love the name George! My son was born with no hair and then his hair turned blonde. Now it is dark. My daughter was born with reddish light brown hair and then it turned strawberry blonde. Then it turned blonde and then it turned light brown. Totally curly. So you never know if your brown-haired baby will be blonde pretty soon. And then have brown hair again!
holland - I like Hollis better, oh, is Holland for a boy? I don't really like it, sorry. I love Hudson.
barnaby - love Barnaby, but not Barney. But Barney is starting to get popular.
Birdie is such a cute name!

Re: help, please!
Hello! Why are boys names so hard??? Here's my opinion, for what it is worth :)
Clyde Singer - This is ok but I think that I agree with Lyndsey that Birdie and Clyde sound a lot like Bonnie & Clyde
Ira Singer - LOVE Ira. Isaiah and Isaac etc are fairly popular, why not Ira? And with a more difficult to spell (for me, the spelling impaired anyway) I love a nice simple name like Ira (tho all of yours fall into that category I guess)
George Singer - Very handsome
Holland Singer - Would stay away from this because of what everyone else said!
Barnaby Singer - How distinguished. Would you mind having both kiddos names start with B?

Re: help, please!
Clyde- Clyde and Birdie, what a pair! Clyde Singer is also the most pleasing combination. I've never really considered Clyde, but he's underused and works great in your family. I'd pick him!
Ira- I do think of him like you do- dark haired, quiet, and it's clearly a Jewish name. I believe the name means "watchful?" I think he's cool to consider, but Ira Singer and Ira with Birdie don't quite click.
George- This is the solid choice, and I don't think there are many out there who wouldn't like George! George and Birdie don't quite match in my mind- Birdie sounds a bit less formal than George. But, if I were to pick, he would be my second choice.
Holland- Holland doesn't sound girly at all to me, mostly because it's my boyfriend's name. I wouldn't necessarily endorse it, I'm not all that into place names, but because of him it's one of the more tolerable ones. It suits him, anyhow. :D Perhaps you'd like Roland?
Barnaby- Oh, so cheerful! I actually think that George Barnaby, vice versa, or a George and Barnaby sibset would be absolutely perfect! But that's not really the question is it? Haha. Barnaby and Birdie are really cute too, if not a little matchy.
So.. my vote is Clyde, 100%! Good luck, and happy naming :D

Re: help, please!
I love the name Birdie! Definitely one my husband and I would have loved to use if we were expecting a girl (we have another girl named Beatrice). Love the boys names by the way.
clyde (for a nice, roly poly boy -- don't laugh!)-love Clyde with a mn like Clyde Owen or Clyde Ewan
ira (for a dark haired kid)-Ira is nice, but for some reason always makes me think of the radio personality Ira Glass. Sorry just can't get over saying Ira without Glass.
george (if he's blondish -- not sure why george is blonde in my mind, but he is)-great and very regal!
holland-a little more feminine for a boy, but definitely a great sounding name
barnaby-love it!
Here are a few more suggestions:
August/Auguste
Mace/Macey
Macegan/Macewan--maybe too Irish sounding if your last name is French though :)
Cooper
Egan
Walter
Sebastian/Seb
Edward
Good luck!
