Re: What do you think of YOUR name?

My name is Britt Marie. Because I was born in the 80s people ALWAYS assumed my name was Brittney/any. To this day, it drives me nuts! In high school I had a teacher who by end of senior year she still couldn't get it right! One day she asked me, 'are you sure your name isn't Brittany?' ... umm... I'm sorry I think I'd know my own name thanks.

I have to admit for a while I was pretty bitter at my parents for making me the object of other people's stupidity and ignorance. For a breif amount of time I considered adding an 'a' to my name to ward off aggravating comments but my dad talked me out of it.

These days I'm okay with my name.

I like that it is a little different, but still easy and well known.
that is hilarious! nice to meet you, Jill Christine!!!!!

My name is Christina Lynn. I was given the name because I was due on Christmas Day! There are several things I like about it...that it doesn't "date" me....(I could have easily been born 20 years before or after my actual birthdate with this name)....that it has lots of nickname possibilities. I've always been Chrissy, but in Jr. High I went by Chris and I always said when I went to college I'd go by Christa but that never happend. On forms, professionally, etc I use Christina. I like having a name that is just used by friends and family. In elementary there were only 7 other girls in my class, but two of them were named Christina! Thankfully we all used different nicknames. Unfortunately Chrissy is usually heard by people as "Christy" and is consantly
misspelled. It also doesn't exactly conjure up an image of independence and sophistication since most people's association is the little girl from Growing Pains or the ditzy blonde from Three's Company. Lynn of course I never liked, even though it had family associations because every other female I knew's middle name was Lynn or Marie.

My name is Olivia Dorothea. I grew up in the early 80s and there weren't very many Olivias at all (I was always the only one at my school). When I was very young I didn't like it, I wanted to be Cindy! But as I got into my teens I came to love it. My middle name is in honor of my grandmother, Dorothy, whom I'm very close to so I love that I'm named after her. Of course once I was able to appreciate having an unusual name, it became very popular. But I still feel that it's a good name–old-fashioned, feminine and substantial.

Re: What do you think of YOUR name?

You might have already heard this story because I wrote about it on one of Linda's blog comments. I have had three names in my life. First I was Deborah Sue nn Debbie. My father and sister and brother hated my name and called me Chuka. I went by Chuka for many years and when I got married at the age of 24, I changed my name to Chuka Susan. By the time I was 30, I decided I hated Chuka, but I didn't like Debbie either. So I became Susan. My husband was really startled! My mother, mother-in-law, and business advisor were overjoyed. My poor little son Peter, age 4, was probably very confused. Anyway, it had to happen because I was ready to throw up if anyone called me Chuka again. So I have been Susan for many, many years, and I just love it! But it is very confusing to change your name. It made my head hurt. But it is worth it. Now when someone says, "Hi, Susan" to me, I love it. It really feels like my name because it was part of my original name. My middle name was Sue, and I thank my mom for coming up with that name. My dad was going to name me Phyllis which I truly do not like. My apologies to any Phyllises out there. And also any Debbies or Chukas (ha, ha, I know there aren't any Chukas).

Don't feel bad, Susan! My "MIL" (for lack of a better term, we're not married) goes by Sue herself and has since High School. Her HS diploma is the last thing that has her real, whole name on it (Pandora Saskia ____ Nash) She's ungooglable because she hasn't used the name in more than 40 years. She's been Sue since the 1940's. Just Sue. I think she's crazy but she persists in Sue. The kids call her HoneySue, instead of Grandma, Nana or anything else. She's a true character!

I'm Margot Elizabeth _____. I was named after a ballerina, Margot Fonteyn (both are on my list of ballet names). My middle name is for my grandma, Eliza. I love my name. I like Margaret but don't care for the nicknames, and Elizabeth has so many nicknames that my closest friends call me Ellie, Lizzie, and Beth- depending on who they are.
I'm still in high school but I love names so much. My mom was a ballet dancer and I am too (hence the ballet list). I know several dancers whose kids have interesting names: Courtney and Thomas have Celeste Courtney and Henry William; Rica has Violet Roxana; Kerry has Edward Jefferson; Nataly and Michael have twins Frederica (Freddy) Jane and Jane (Jacky) Frederica.
How cool this website is! I love your name, Lola.

Margot, you know someone who actually named their kids Frederica Jane and Jane Frederica?! Did they have some special reason for doing that? Seems pretty lazy and unoriginal to me.

Love your name, by the way!

Their grandmothers were Jane and Frederica, and they aren't identical, and their mom couldn't decide on middle names, so she did it that way. With names like that you always know they're twins.

    I love my name too!

Re: What do you think of YOUR name?

My name is Jill Lynette. I have always been interested in learning the middle names of other Jills that I have met. Jill Christine is new to me. I really like it.

I hated my name growing up. I was born in the late 60s and all my friends were named Melissa nn Missy and Melinda nn Mindy, etc. I wanted a longer name, too, that I could shorten. Also, all my friends had the mn Ann or Lynn or Marie, and they actually made fun of my mn. Now, I feel that my name suits me. I am supposedly named after the actress Jill St. John. The story goes that my dad's favorite girl names happened to be names of his old girlfriends. So my mom finally agreed upon Jill.

I gave my daughters a 3-syllable feminine name, with a cute, 2-syllable nickname. But now that my older daughter is a teen, I wish there was a 1-syllable name that would suit her.
