Re: What names have we missed?

oh sorry I should have thought of that:

Chiyo - this was used in the book "The Geisha" by Arthur Golden. It means "a thousand generations". Chiyo is the main character, the girl who becomes a geisha. When she actually becomes a geisha, her name is changed to Sayuri.

Meike / Maike - both pronounced MY-keh , quite popula in the 80s in Germany. German diminutive of Maria. I think it's also being used in the Netherlands.

Mareike is also a diminutive of Maria (Frisian, German). mah-RYE-keh.

Chihiro - Used in "Spirited Away". I only know that the Chi part means "thousand" as does the Chi in Chiyo. Of course it depends on which kanji you use to spell the name. it might also mean different things depending on which characters you use.

Elske is the Frisian/German short form of Elizabeth

Re: What names have we missed? (adding a definition)

I just wanted to add the meaning to an already-listed name: Zarouhi is an Armenian version of Sarah. I know this because it was my great-grandmother's name, and it's my middle name. My weird family romanized it as Zarouhe, but I think the "i" ending is more common.
