Anyone who is adding names to this thread. If you have a longer list of ethnic minority names that you'd like added (and you can come up with a few written sources to back up each name and the meanings) click on the link in my signature where I'm starting to compile to make it easier for Pam and Linda to fact check before adding them to the site.

I just noticed you have Adelaide as a German name. I think Germanic would be more accurate since the German version of Adelaide is actually Adelheid. Adelaide is the French/English version of the German name.
Here is a german name site http://www.baby-vornamen.de/Maedchen/A/Ad/Adelaide/ that states the same that is easy to navigate even without German language skills.
Also short addition:
For Baer which you also have down as German. The "ae" combo is actually an older/less known alternative for the a umlaut (Bär would be the proper German spelling). Bär and therefore Baer literally translates to Bear. It's not even Bearlike or dweller at the sign of the bear as suggested - it would be a word for word translation. Though I don't mind the definition it seems a little extraneous for something so simple. I however think it's also more Gemanic than German - behindthename.com has it listed as a diminutive form of the Limburgish Albaer and suggest that the German equivalent is (Al)bert which seems very plausible. Also, I have never been able to find the name Baer on a German name site.Last edited by lexiem; September 6th, 2012 at 12:50 AM.

My great grandmothers name was Eunica. I haven't found it on any name site yet and I don't know if it was a early form of Eunice. I did find out that it is a genus of butterflies. She died before I was born so I couldn't ever ask where her name came from.

Ananya! I believe it was the number 1 girls' name in India and it is distinctive without being weird.

I met a woman today with the name Jamea (pronounced Jamie). I checked it out on a few other sites. It appears to be Hebrew in origin.
