    Astrid Lindgren Names!

Here's a list of the original Swedish names that have been used in Astrid Lindgren's wonderful literature which I have loved since I was a small child.

I'd love to know what these names translate to in your languages- which names have the books and characters where you live?

    Any favourites, name or character-wise?

I'm sure I forgot a few but here's the list:
    * I think it's quite interesting that there are quite a few repeats of names in her works, thoughts?

Love it! I read Pippi, Ronia, and Children of Noisy Village. Pippi and Ronia were my favorites. I don't have the books with me (mum's attic) but I'll see if I remember what their names were in the English books I have.

    Pippi
Pippi- Pippilotta Provisiona Garbedina Dandeliona, had to look that one up!
    Annika- no change
    Tommy- no change
Efraim- Ephraim (had to look that up, too, couldn't remember if his name was changed)

    Ronia the Robber's Daughter
    Ronja- Ronia
and... I don't recognize any of the other names. Her friend was Birk. Oh, I looked it up and found this. No wonder I don't recognize them, they're quite different in some cases. I only remember Ronia and Birk really well.
    Joen- Jep
Labbas- not sure, can't remember or find it, who was this character? Maybe I'll remember.
    Fjosok- Foolok
    Lovis- no change
    Jutis- Jutto
    Knotas- Knott
    Turre- Tapper
    Undis- no change

Children of Noisy Village (The Six Bullerby Children)
    Britta- no change
    Anna- no change
    Lisa- no change
    Olle- Ollie
the other names I either don't remember or they're too different for me to recognize as characters. Lisa's brothers were Lars and Pip.

I also read Madicken, but I don't remember it well at all. I think she was Meg here. I do remember a Matti and a Mia... and a maid named Alma. Gosh, what a trip down memory lane. Makes me want to dig though mum's attic and find these books.
    Considering...
Cordelia Eilonwy Snow ● Evadne Undomiel Snow ● Isabeau Jane Sophronia ● Lorelei Nimue Ondine
Pandora Vivienne Swan ● Thisbe Octavia Wildrose ● Thora Ilythia Swan

    ●●● ●●● ●●●
Caspian Ithuriel Wilder ● Damian Rainer Sparrow ● Evander Ithuriel Sol
Gwydion Alaric Hart ● Malachi Tristan Bjorn ● Phineas Robin Blaise ● Theodore Peregrine Llyr

I love Emil and Ronja! These are names very much identified with Astrid Lindgren in Iceland (she is very much loved here). I have only read Ronja Ræningjadóttir in Icelandic, and I remember Ronja is unchanged, her parents are named Matthías and Lovísa (both names I also love), and her friend is named Birkir. In most of these cases it is quite easy to 'translate' from Swedish to Icelandic.
    Emil - Ingimar - Kjartan - Matthías - Óskar - Róbert

    Elísabet - Elva - Rósa - Sólveig - Svala - Ylfa

Thanks for the great list! I haven't read many Astrid Lindgren books, but I like what I have read. I actually have a cousin named Ronja
