Smile Due in December! Name help?!

    Hello all!

My name's Madison and my husband is Alvaro. We are due with our first little one this December! We're super excited and starting to discuss names. We'd love our children to have a name that is Hispanic (or able to easily pronounce in Spanish) to make sure it flows well with our extremely Hispanic last name. We like semi-unusual names, I'd say...nothing too popular, but nothing super rare either.

Here are some of our favorites so far!

    Boys:
    Dexter
    Maximo
    Felix
    Luca
    Dyer
    (family name)

    Girls:
    Athena
    Penelope
    Aurora
    Ofelia
    Clementine
    Ripley

If we have a little guy, the first name will be Alvaro (for hub!) but we will call him by his middle name. Also - we know Ripley is very random and doesn't fit extremely well with our other favorites, but we LOVE it! We are kind of nerdy and love Ellen Ripley from Alien!

Any other ideas? Opinions on our current list? Any input is greatly appreciated! We're trying to keep the name a surprise from family & friends until baby comes! Thanks for your help!

Congratulations-- you've got some great choices here! I do think Ripley is very different than the feel of the other names-- what about Elena as a way to reference Ellen Ripley?

Because the baby will be born in December, what about Stella, Nico/Nicolao, Nazario, Gloria, Natalia, Noelia, or Nieves?

    Some other possibilities:

    Alicia
    Anabel
    Araceli

Thanks for your input! We've talked about Elena - it's slowly growing on me...I still really love Ripley, but hate how it sticks out from all the other names we love!

I also really like Natalia, Anabel, Joaquin (this actually used to be at the top of our boy list!), and Leonardo! I've tried talking hubby into Rafael (I think it's great!) but he has a bad association with it and refuses. Sebastian is growing on me, too.

    Thanks again!

    Boys:
Dexter- I don't feel like this would go very well with the first name, but if you love it, go for it.
    Maximo- Great, energetic, exotic name.
Felix- Great happy go lucky name.
Luca- A lovely, gentle, understated and very attractive name. It goes nicely with the first name too.
Dyer(family name)- NMS, but still a good name.

    Girls:
Athena- I love mythological names (my first girl will be named Artemis), and this one is great.
    Penelope- Very pretty.
Aurora- Beautiful and elegant and princessy. Every little girl dreams of having this name, and it transtitions really well.
Ofelia- I love this name with the original Ophelia spelling, but this is still a gorgeous name.
    Clementine- Very pretty.
Ripley- I really like this- I wouldn't worry about how it doesn't fit your general style- if you love it, go for it. It is not as though she will have all the names you like , she'll just be Ripley, and maybe a middle name or two.

    Suggestions:
Girls: Marina, Ophira / Ofira, Althea, Aurelia, Eleni (eh-LEN-ee), Persephone, Prima, Perdita, Penina (pay-NEE-nah), Pella, Pamela, Paloma, Pandora, Orella, Orinthia, Oriole, Orphea, Olympia, Rowena, Odessa, Odelia, Odette / Odetta, Oceana, Obelia, Cressida, Calista, Calliope, Octavia, Quintina, Ninon, Nerissa, Thalia, Athalia, Marisol, Mariposa, Miranda, Pomeline, Apolline, Valentina / Valentine, Valencia, Venetia, Meliora, Corisande, Catalina, Marcelle, Madrigal, Lucia, Luna, Laurel, Amandine, Liliana, Romilly, Bellamy, Kerensa, Anastasia, Tatiana, Titania, Allegra, Eliana, Oriana, Rafaela, Mirabela / Mirabel, Arabella, Clementina, Celeste, Hermione, Pilar, Giselle, Ginerva, Minerva, Carolina, Fenella, Evangeline, Genevieve, Delphine, Dorothea, Elara, Alessandra, Ravenna.

    Boys:
Enzo, Fabian, Dashiell, Lucian, Alessandro, Crispin, Cassian, Cassiel, Emmanuel, Caspian, Eleazer, Elias, Abner, Ezra, Boaz, Beau, Feliz, Fiero, Finnian, Gabriel, Caspar, Hugo, Asa, Inigo, Ivo, Maxwell, Maximus, Van, Josiah, Zebedee, Chester, Cheever, Clyde, Claude, Claudio, Lemuel, Lionel, Leon, Lucan, Lowell, Lysander, Dmitri, Luther.

    Congratulations and happy naming!

    Thanks for your input!

We're really leaning towards Athena (hub's suggestion - I'm proud of his pick!) or Aurora (I love the nn Rory, too.) I'm still hardcore name-crushing on Ripley, though. (Good thing we have until December!) I forgot about Pilar - I love that, too! And I *love* Oriana, but it's one of hub's sister's names so we're avoiding it...same with Van - it's my brother's name (but spelled Vann.) Great suggestions - thanks!
