    Meaning of Aldis.

I was watching something with Aldis Hodge and started wondering about his name. I couldn’t really find much online.
One site suggested it was old english and means warrior another linked it to the old German Aldo meaning old one. Neither felt really reliable.

Anyone got any suggestions of where better too look? (It’s not listed on BTN and NB just acknowledges it’s a name). Or what it means and what it’s history is?

Hmm... did some quick Googling and it looks as if it's a Latvian name. Looking at other Latvian names on BtN, '-is' is quite a common suffix: Vilis (William), Mikelis (Michael), Juris (George)... so it could be a Latvian form of another name, perhaps Aldo?

That’s it never occurred to me that it might be a Latvian form of Aldo. Thanks!!!
