Feels very old world to me, the only Almanzo I can think of was the husband of Laura Ingalls Wilder. While it isn't really my style, I do like it. I prefer it to Armando.

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear Almanzo is The Little House On The Prairie. I kind of like it, but not for myself.

The reason Laura's husband is the only Almanzo you can think of is because his family may well have been the originators of the name, if the story is true. In one of the books, Almanzo told Laura that his name had been handed down in his family since the Crusades, when one of his ancestors was saved by an Arab called El Manzoor. Almanzo was the Anglicized version his family used to commemorate the event.

If you're comfortable with the specialized association, I think it's a great name. It has a lot going for it--cool A initial, cool O ending, cool Z! And Laura called him Manly, which I think is a great nickname.
"He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names."
    Psalm 147:4

Una Marguerite/Oona Sylvestra ~ Jessamyn Agnes ~ Branwen Evangeline ~ Alice Emmanuelle ~ Christiana Linnet
