If your son was born during Hurricane Katrina, why is he 10? He should be 8.

He is turning 9 this year. Im not sure if it is a family tradition or cultural thing but in my family, we've always added one year to a person's age. It's like a prayer that they'll get through the year safely. Since he is turning 9 this year (by which we speak of him already being 9, this is another thing and can't say that it's only a family thing, I know a lot of people say their kid for example is 5 when they are 4 because in that year they will be turning 5) my family and I calls him 10.

I sincerely hope that wasn't confusing!

Actually, that's incredibly confusing. My niece is one and a half and I tell people she's one and a half.
