Is it eev-lyn or ev-lyn? I guess it could be said both ways but which is more commonly used?

I've always pronounced it Eve-lyn. I've never heard it pronounce Evv-lyn.Name lover

I say EHV-uh-lyn (three distinct syllables). The only Evelyn I know (she's 20) pronounces it like this too.I'm 19 with a furbaby named Frederick
* Beatrix * Clementine * Penelope * Seraphina *
* Theodore * Hugo * Caspian * Arthur * Lysander *

"EEV-lyn" was usually how it was pronounced when males were given the name. "EV-uh-lyn" is the way I pronounce the female name (the second syllable is so faint that the name often sounds like it's just two syllables instead of three).

I've only heard it pronounced as Ehv-uh-lyn.Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot
