    Question Pseudonyms

I was wanting to know what the writerberries think of my Pseudonyms.

I prefer androgynous/ ambigender names. It generally works better for female writers, unless you are writing "lipstick" novels. I write more like Linwood Barclay, Dean Koontz & Stephen King. (I'm not saying I'm in their league!)

Alex Kenner my maternal grandad was Kenneth.

    McKinley Hart

    A. D. Katz

    Alex Kidd

    J. D. Olhouser

    L. J. Kiesel

    Alex Sapien

These are all real life last names.

I'd scrub McKinley. I just see 'surname surname' when I see it and it doesn't sound professional at all.

I have thought about using one name for genre and another name for another genre. Like crime/thriller and children's books or pre-teen/ teen novels.

As a former editor and current agent, you discuss this with your publisher first. Your publisher usually decides or helps to decide on whether you should use a pseudonym are not, as there are legal issues involved, in terms of contracts, Inland Revenue, etc, etc, etc. Go with your own name for now; when you have an agent, bring it up; or suggest it to your editor when you have reached that stage.

Many women write horror novels and thrillers and science fiction; you don't have to assume that it would be better to be gender-neutral in terms of sales.

I am aware of this, there is also the chance that someone else uses the same name but I'd like to have.my own options, I don't want to end up like Joan Crawford! Her name was chosen for her and she hated it!
I am hoping to do my doctorate in Clinical Psychology so I would like the option to publish psychology papers as "Dr. Alexandra Kennison" and novels under, say, "Alex Kenner" so they are separate from each other. So it's a personal/ professional separation, if you get where I'm coming from.
