They hate my name choice :(

So I'm usually into names that some people on here don't like... I love surnames for first names, even ones which are considered boy names for girls. I name my first daughter Emmerson (nn: Emmy)... But in Australia, Emerson is rare, and I've only seen it on girls.

My parents love my daughters name... My inlaws who are British and much prefer more tradition names tried to suggest Elizabeth or Charlotte instead, but it's grown on them...

This time in a weird twist for me, my husband and I have fallen in love with Evangeline and plan to name our next daughter (due in August) that... But while my inlaws love it, my parents have only sneered at how long it is and old fashioned We plan to use it anyways, but it's weird for me since I'm usually at odds with my inlaws not my parents... *sigh*

What does everyone think of Evangeline (nn: Evie)?

PS> DH wants the middle name Lily (family name), but has never watched Lost... Do you think it's too weird calling her Evangeline Lily?

In the US Evangeline Lily is an automatic ding! ding! ding! for the actress, but Australia might be very different.

I think it's lovely. Here it's gotten a lot of traction, particularly amongst conservative Christians who like the overt religious meaning ("gospel, good news"). I fell in love with it as a child reading the Longfellow poem. It's very pretty without being frilly, but it's popular enough to be a sister to Emmerson without sticking out as a discordant sibset.

I LOVE EVANGELINE! The nickname Evie is adorable.

I wouldn't use Lily with it, as many many associate the name with actress Evangeline Lily. Your parents can always call her Evie till they come around to Evangeline.

If the actress association bothers you, maybe you could honor Lily another way. Such as using Lillian or Lila instead.

Evangeline is lovely, but definitely don't use Lily! I'm in Australia and my first thought is the actress, too.
