    How about Caspian? It feels like a sweet, buttoned-up and traditional name (even though it isn't), while the Caspian Sea gives you a touch of nature feel. Nicknames could be Ian, Cas, or even Aspen.

    Dale - this one is truly traditional as well as nature-inspired. Not much for the nicknames though.

    West, Weston, Westley - a distant naturey theme while still having a somewhat traditional feel, and you get nn Wes or West.

    Roderick, nn Rook - one of my pet favorites, would give you a traditional name with a fully nature name as a nn.

    Quillan - this is a "forgotten" traditional name, and nn Quill might give you a bit of a nature edge? You'd have to change the middle name for this one though.

    Zephyr - maybe too out-there for your husband.

    Skylar - I think this one has nearly attained "modern classic" status. Sky for short, the nature nod is obvious.
