The Julius Caesar reference in this post just made me think of Augustus as the awful Roman emperor (who also basically invented using sexuality to discredit women in politics).
I would definitely go with August over Augustus. It has the same feel and just seems to me to have a more neutral connotation. I actually really like the name August for a boy.

I love (and would keep):
August (but not Augustus)
I'd eliminate (a lot of these are personal associations though):
Clea- It sounds a bit like a medical term, much prefer Cleo/Clio.
Cora- Very bad associations for me (kind of).
Serena- I know a Serena; she does not suit or give any appeal to the name.
Beckett- Reminds me of Sir Thomas Becket (studied him in History), although I doubt many others will know or make the link.
Cormac- Reminds me of Tarmac.
Finnegan- Reminds me of the Michael Finnegan rhyme/song.
Augustus- I can only think of Augustus Gloop/Roman Emperors.Wholock | Historian | Biochemist | Single Pringle | Teenberry (16)
