    My grandfather-in-law was named Royal. First I'd ever heard of the name, and I thought it was pretty darn awesome. Because of that, I see it as a boy's name.

    I thought of Almanzo Wilder's brother Royal, too. It's all boy to me.

    I like the name Noble, so Royal is nice too. I would only use either on a boy. Royal on a girl has less of a vintage vibe and does remind me of names like Diamond and Princess.
