It's a place name I adore, but not for a boy. If I were you, I'd stick with Scott. Maybe it's because I'm younger, but the first thing I think of is Penelope Scotland Disick, Kourtney Kardashian's baby.

Scotland is a country so it's neutral. Seriously, some places names just don't "sound" that good for people names so I don't really think it's usuable as a first name.
    All the best,
    Mischa.

My surname is German but I won't be naming my child Germany just because I have a connection to the country. Same goes for Poland.
Right and as someone who is German and lives in Germany I'd find it really weird if someon did. Chosing a German / Scottish name is a whole different story. To me naming a child Scotland or Germany or Poland even seems "very not Scottish, German, Polish".

Yeah this is what I was trying to get at too. It'd be weird because it just isn't done here.

I think it's okay either way. You can still use Scott and say he's named after Scotland, it doesn't HAVE to be the full country name to let there still be meaning. Typically, I wouldn't suggest Scotland, but you have the story for it to make sense.
