    Alternatives to India

What names would you suggest to someone who loves the name India but is uncomfortable with the possible negative connotations? (I'm not really looking for other Ind- names, just names that are similar stylistically or in sound.)

Hm, not exactly sure what you want, so some ideas:
Luella, Violetta, Odelia, Willa, Saskia, Cassia, Talia, Georgia, Alaska, Zoe, Hillary, June, Diane, Isla.
India sounds strong, and foreign, a tricky combination... Sorry, I'm having a tough time with this one!

Oscar, Albus, Felix, Ronan, Wally, Wyatt, Henry, Charlie

I know girls called India with sisters called -
    Matilda
    Ruby
    Olivia
    Iris
    Maeve
    Rosie
    Beatrice
    Aoife

Quite a mixed bag, they tend to just be old/well-known, and trendy names used by young middle-class parents (generally speaking, of course).

What about Saffron? It's such a guilty pleasure name of mine.
Rosemary Una - Annabel Briar - Tabitha Lettice - Maude Evangeline - Fenella Imogen - Eilidh Agnes - Cordelia Bee - Billie Margaret
names for dreamy, sublime little darlings. the smell of springtime air, freckled knees, damp hair. Soft evening light and fiery hearts.
Emmett Kielder - Rufus Jack - Cathal Nicholas - Eoghan Baez - Caspian Hugh - Wilfred Alec

I feel the same way about that name! My favorite alternative is Indira because it sounds very nearly the same, but it comes with its own very strong connotations. I'm not sure if you'll like these, but here are some other names I like. They're not all the same style, but I can imagine someone who likes India being drawn to any of these for different reasons:
    Ada
    Aveline
    Iris
    Lazuli
    Saskia
    Jade or Giada
    Willow
    Hazel
    Azure
    Leila
    Dahlia
    Anais
    Verity
    Annika
    Cassia
    Magnolia
    Dasia
    Saga
    Romilly
    Jessenia or Yesenia
    Linnea
    Cora
    Aziza
    Seren
    Reverie
    Renata
    Sabina

Maybe something else with international appeal, like Nadia or Sonia?
