    Jewel Names?

I am curious what people think of jewel names. I know many are old-fashioned, which suits me, but maybe not others. I also know that they could seem like bright shiny objects to some: trivial and silly. And some can seem tacky as well.

    Here are my thoughts:

    Tacky:
Opal (because of the character on All My Children!)
Sapphire (because my high school seniors tell me it is!)
Bijou (lady of the night associations)
Diamond (I don't like diamonds, much prefer pearls)
Crystal (Dynasty meets crystal meth in my mind)

Nice, But Not Wild About Them:
    Amber
    Bronze
Peridot (how do you say this?)
Onyx (sounds rather like an African gazelle - oryx?)
Amethyst (half nice, half tacky to me)

    Intrigues Me Greatly, Worth Exploring
    Copper (love the sound)
Chalcedony (beautiful looking word, not sure how to pronounce?)
    Cinnabar (unfortunate last syllable)
Obsidian (again, great word and I live in obsidian Indian country)

    Really Really Like:
Carnelian (so smooth sounding, for any gender)
    Emerald (a cool green)
    Coral (love this old-fashioned "gem"!)
    Jade
    Cameo
Beryl (sounds like the woman silhouetted on the cameo!)
    Garnet (from pomegranate, luscious)
    Jasper (adore it)
Topaz (blue glittering or brown autumnal)
    Pearl

What do you think/see? I must be missing some...

Of the jewel names, I like:

Opal (and strongly disagree that it's tacky)
    Coral
    Garnet
    Jasper
    Pearl
    Ruby
    Onyx

Jade is a pretty name but I generally associate it with being a little trashy just because of everyone I've ever met named Jade.

I like Emerald. I think there are other jewels too that are useable as names? Ruby and Pearl are very popular on Nameberry especially in the birth announcements and celeb babies but if you don't mind that, go for it
