Elliott - sweet for a girl or not

I would like to hear honest opinions on why you think or do not think Elliott makes a sweet girls name.

Elliott is just a surname to me, but when used as a first name I prefer it on a boy. There are so many beautiful other El- names just for girls.

I had a student who was a female Eliot. Only spelled with one "l". She was a darling , sweet, kind child.

I think Elliott is and adorable name for a girl but I'm not sure why I think it is.

    Let's turn this around.

Do you think Ella makes a sweet boy's name? What about Ellen? After all, Eli and Elijah begin with the same two letters. The "en" ending is almost exclusively masculine. But I'm pretty sure that if I posted on NB announcing that I was going to name my son Ellen, people would treat it as a joke at best, an aberration at worst.

So how is naming a girl Elliot any different?

Just a grad student, dreaming ahead...
