They're two separate names to me as well. I prefer Madeline (mad-uh-line) to Madelyn (mad-uh-lyn). Madeline with the -lyn ending makes no sense to me.
    Current favorites:
    Cora . Louisa . Lydia . Mary

I actually prefer the Madeline spelling. It looks more streamlined to me, without being kreeativ. I pronounce all versions of the name MAD-uh-lin unless told otherwise.

    Madeline - line - OK
Madeleine - lehn (not lyn) - prettiest and my fave
Madelyn - lyn (modern invention and sadly I believe it's the most popular)
    All the best,
    Mischa.

Madeleine with the -layne pronunciation is my favourite. Madeline I say with the -line pronunciation, and Madelyn I find too trendy. If I was pronouncing the name Mad-eh-lyn I would go with Madeleine over Madeline if those were my only options.
