People already made a ton of great suggestions, but just in reading your thread title, I immediately thought that Dean fit the bill of gentle and masculine. I like it best paired with Patrick. I also think Dean could be used for a wide variety of boys.
    Mom to Nora.

    Current favorites:
Declan (Decs/Dex). Griffin (Finn). Euan. John (Johnny).

Sylvie. Iris. Gwyneth (Gwen). Daphne (Effie). Piper.

    I also recommend:
    Lewis/Louis Patrick
    Hugh Thomas
    Paul Robert
    Ian Scott

    Howard nn Howie Thomas
    Milo Robert
    Timothy Scott
    Franklin Scott
    Gilbert Patrick
    Stephan (pronounced Ste-fawn) Patrick

I was going for gentle and masculine. You have some good choices already. I think my favorite of my choices Stephan. I love that one!
    Good Luck!

Oh I don't think you are asking too much with wanting a gentle and masculine name. I think you hit a great sweet spot with Liam that does make finding a second name harder. When reading your topic title I immediately thought of Emmett, Julian, Anton, Gawain, Sebastian and Theodore.

Going off of your list above I like these combos: Ethan Robert and Micah Scott.
