    We Cannot Decide

We cannot decide on a boys name.

Our son is one week past his due date, but at least it's buying us time to make a name decision.

    Why is this so difficult?

After making several "Yes, this is THE name" decisions, we've both arrived back at the drawing board after finding fault with one name or another. We also have several personal favorites that don't resonate with each other.

Can you help us to narrow down the lists, provide critique, and/or offer suggestions?

    On my list...

    - Jude - DH thinks this is too feminine
    - Easton - DH does not like
    - Stellan - DH does not like
    - Enzo
    - Ford
    - Hugo
    - Malone
    - Everett / Rhett - My father's middle name
    - Thaddeus / Tad - My father's first name
    - Quincy

    On his list...

    - John / Johnny - His father's name, but I can't bring myself to name my two children Jane and John
    - Robert / Bobby - I LOVE Bobby but HATE Robert / Bob, which I assume will become his adult variation
    - Lennon - We're both big into the Beatles, but this name might fall to Lenny / Len, which I do not like
    - William - I can't do a top 10 name. I just can't.

Names we both love, but can't use for whatever reason...

    - Harrison / Harry
    - Peter
    - Leopold / Leo

    Keeping in mind...

    - Our last name is 2 syllables
    - Our last name begins and ends with an S
    - Our last name contains an -ER, which takes names like Carter, Miller, et al off the list for us
    - Our daughter is named Jane
    - This is likely our last child
    - My DH is drawn to traditional names
    - I like traditional but unique names. Think Linus and Simon (which are out because of our last name)

    Bless you, in advance.

From your list I like Hugo and Quincy. And what do you think of Quintin?

From your mans list I like William. What about Nathan or Nathaniel instead of John/Johnny? (Nathan is related to Jonathan/John).

I really like Leo from both of yours list. I'm not as much into Leopold, I like Leonardo better. I also like Harrison.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble finding a name you both love.

    On my list...

    - Jude - I love this name and I don't think it's too feminine. However, not the best choice with Jane as they would share an initial.
    - Easton - if DH does not like, let it go!
    - Stellan - see Easton
    - Enzo - short for Lorenzo
    - Ford - Kind of bland
    - Hugo - my favourite along with Jude. Hugo Everett or Hugo Thaddeus would be wonderful.
    - Malone - not a fan
    - Everett - See Hugo. Good for a fn or mn.
    - Thaddeus - See Hugo.
    - Quincy - Ok but I'm not big on surnames as first names

    On his list...

    - John / Johnny - Jane and John are basically the same name so Jane already honours a John, doesn't it?
    - Robert / Bobby - If you hate Robert, let it go!
    - Lennon - Yeah, he'll probably get Len or Lenny
    - William - Classic but very popular.

Names we both love, but can't use for whatever reason...

    - Harrison / Harry
    - Peter
    - Leopold / Leo

    Other Suggestions

    Winston (John Lennon's middle name)
    Willem (Dutch version of William)
    Milo
    Duncan
    Grant
    Quentin
    Wesley
    Griffin
    Felix
    Luke
    Theodore/Theo
    Roland
    Maxwell
    Richard
    Laurence/Lawrence
    Eli
    Micah
    Isaac
    Timothy
    Philip
    Lincoln
    Dean
    Gregory
    Alfred
    Sullivan
    Tynan
    George
    Orion
    Colin
    Arlo
    All the best,
    Mischa.

I like @mischa's suggestion of Hugo Thaddeus. If you use say John/Peter etc. the sibset will sound like a plainish sorta thing but adding Hugo to Jane=quirky coolness. Unusual but traditional and classic-names that a child can put their own mark on and will fit them from children to adults.
[ Ingo Julius ][ Igor John ][ Rory Judd ]
    [ Ottilie ][ Emeline ][ Llio ][ Grace ][ Edie ][ Miriam ]

Why not Peter? I think it's a solid name that is very underused these days.
