    I used to teach high school and there was a kid named Rafe and he definitely got teased for it.

    I really don't like Rafe. I can't pinpoint it but there's something that I just don't like about it. Maybe it's the similarity to Ralph (to throw up)??

    "Rafe" is an old-english pronunciation of "Ralph" in Mr Fiennes defense! If it is the pronunciation his parents chose then it is hardly "pretentious" of him.....

    I think Rafe is lovely - and I don't see any "rape" connection - F and P are nothing alike.

    I do believe he changed the pronunciation of his name from Ralph to Rafe. It's not his parents that chose that pronunciation. Speaking of which, I wonder if his parents now call him Rafe or if they still call him Ralph.
