    Nicholas - classic or dated?

To me, he's handsome, he's smart, he's got fun nicknames to suit every personality, but is he a little bit past his use by date? The youngest Nicholas I know is in his 20s, which is why I'm questioning it - I don't want a future son to think I've given him a 'dad' name.

Nicholas is a classic to me. I know two little boys named this (I work at a child care center, one of the babies 6 months, the other is a 3 year old boy) but I live in Upstate NY and there's a lot of old-fashioned names that have never cycled out here, so I'm not sure what other parts of the country look like.

I think Nicholas is a very handsome and completely useable name! Like you said, there are plenty of nicknames for Nicholas, and spelling variants too for that matter. I know a teenage Nicholas, who loves his name, and one toddler who goes by Nico! I would say it's a classic, but definitely not a 'Dad' name.

I'd say that it's a classic but it feels dated to me.

It's a classic. It doesn't feel dated at all to me, and as someone already said, Nico would jazz it up a bit (as would Ollie, a nickname for Nicholas I'm contemplating using but everyone says I'm mad so...) I know Nicholass (Nicholases? I can't pluralise it properly...) of all ages.
