    Canaan for a Girl

Although Canaan is traditionally a boy name, I think it has a strong, determined sound for a girl. What are your thoughts?

I used to love Canaan until I realized that it sounds like "cane in" (like you're going to whip someone and use a cane to do so). My liking has subsided sustantially so personally I wouldn't use it for either gender. With violence against women at epidemic proportions all over the world, this name wouldn't be very cool for a girl.
    All the best,
    Mischa.

It just sounds like the town in NH to me. Not a stand out choice for either gender. Sorry!

Canaan is a dog breed, so I don't like it for a human name.

I knew a female Canaan, a very studious, direct and pleasant tween. I have great associations with the name, therefore I think it's fine
