    Our adoptive daugter is Ellie...

So we have been looking for an "official" name that Ellie can be a nickname for. I think we really like Elia. I pronounce it "El-ie-a"...the "ie" is a long "I" sound. Pronounced like "Elijah" but without the "J". What do you think? Is that confusing? Will she be explaining the pronunciation all the time?

While I am not religious the meaning of the name is "God has answered" which I think is awesome since she is our foster daughter and this has been a very long road.

Just want some feedback though on what everyone thinks Thank you!!

Elia Sophia Kate would be her full name....

Sophia is her middle name given to her by her birth mother
Kate is after me her adoptive mom

Are you aware that Elia is a MALE name (ee-LIE-uh)? Elia Kazan was a famous director. If I saw Elia on a girl, I would pronounce it as "ee-LEE-uh".
    All the best,
    Mischa.

When I think of the nn Ellie.. I think of:

    Eleanor
Elliot [female version of course, which is perfectly usable.]
    Eliza
    Ellis
    Elise
    Elizabeth, Elisabeth
Ellison [which I have seen on a little girl.]

Eleanor Sophia Kate is a super cute combo.
