Legend actually has a history (albeit rather brief) as a legitimate name. I think it even charts. Legacy, on the other hand, makes me think of a dead person's will. The sound isn't terribly attractive either. There are better noun names out there.
Simon, Eloise, Faye, Judah, Thea, Marina, Felix, Iris, Cordelia, Roscoe, Lydia, Jasper, Phaedra, Adrian, Lucinda, Jane, Wallace, Finnegan, Sylvie, Charlie, Juniper, Atlas, Matilda, Julian, Alice, Marlowe, Octavia, Jack, Marigold, Ruby Louise, Archer, Violet, Gabriel, Persephone, Dov, Louisa

Legend is cool. It's good for a boy. Legacy sounds more feminine - nn Lacy

Legend is on my list as a middle name. I'm obsessed with fairytales.
If you like Legend, then you might like Fable, Quest, Pan, Wren, Bravery, Story, Ever, Lore, Myth, Wonder, Elfe, Elvyn. A lot of these make great nn for longer names.
ex: Lore- Lorien, Lorelei, Elora. Myth- Amethyst, Fable - Fabian. Ever- Everett, Everleigh, Everest. Story- Estoire, Astoria.
