Thread: Adeline Pronunciation?
August 28th, 2013 08:40 PM #1
How do you guys pronounce Adeline? a-də-LEEN or AD-ə-lien? Just curious. I like Adeline, and I've been pronouncing it a-də-LEEN. But I just was listening to Sweet Adeline, and they pronounce it the other way. Now I'm curious about which pronunciation is more popular. Please include where you live. Thanks!Just another teenberry and writer, a lover of names

I'm terrible with writing out pronunciations, but I think I pronounce it the same way as ashthedreamer: ADD-uh-line is how I'd describe my pronunciation. I've never heard the song Sweet Adeline, but I've heard so much about it and this makes me want to go find it and listen.
As a sidenote, I've never heard it pronounced add-uh-LEEN. The only other pronunciation I've heard for this name is ADD-uh-lynn, which is also beautiful. I'm having trouble getting my head around the add-uh-LEEN prn.
I'm in the US, by the way, on the east coast.
