Thread: Collecting Stripper Names
August 26th, 2013 08:56 PM #11
How have names like Madison, Eve, Ebony, Tamara, Savannah, Scarlett, Bella, Anastasia, Desiree, Kimberly etc. made it to your list of "stripper names"? Apart from a few exceptions (Candy, Cookie, Diamond, Jewel), I honestly don't associate the majority of those names with pole dancing at all. I don't know, I think it's kinda rude to mark some names as "stripper names" (which isn't really the most flattering mark on a name). In theory, any name could be a "stripper name".Exporting old Danish names, Greenlandic names and Greenlandic sibling names

I saw someone suggested Electra and Raina and Im just sitting here like.. what?
A variation of my name is actually on the OP list. I fail to see how Angel, Anastasia, Eve, Madison, Tamara, Jasmine, Roxanne, Savannah, and Jewel are stripper names, as they have all been on my list at one point or another. Perhaps most ridiculous is Bella... Isnt that in the top ten? Well if these are "stripper" names, I guess I have a stripper name, and so will my daughter. I mean Ruby? Really? Next im gonna hear Pearl too, right? I mean you might as well add my whole list if Madison and Kimberly qualify.

I woudl define "stripper name" as akin to "cheap sounding". Not necessarily inidicative of a woman who will end up stripping for a living, but a trashy name nonetheless. However, I don't have any favourites because, well, who has favourite stripper names? I agree that the following are cheap sounding names...
I don't agree that these are "stripper names" at all...
Audrey - Beatrice - Clara - Daphne - Jane - Margaret - Susannah - Violet
August - Barnaby - Edward - Frederick - Henry - Rupert - Theodore - Walter

fwiw, I am a strippper. Dancer's stage names actually mostly follow larger baby naming trends and sound like real names.
I have worked with women who danced as:
Some women do have stage names that are quirkier word names. I know real strippers who use these names and I've always liked them:
Stripping is a job. Many of us who do it don't find it to be inherently negative. Certainly not everyone can or should do this work, but I'd be careful about assuming that the names we give our work personas are thereafter tainted. Most women's names have probably been used by a stripper as her stage name at some point.
Creating an alter ego that has a name other than the one we were born with, possibly a fantastic one, is one of the most fun things about stripping. I would think most name nerds could sympathize with that?

Other real strippers I have known:
Also, there is some confusion in the thread as to whether the op was asking for the street (real) names given to women who later become strippers, or their stage names. Let me clarify that the real names of women who later become strippers are a wide selection of names from their birth era.
My suspicion is that the op was asking for stage names. Which are more interesting, anyway.
