A Name We Both Can Love -- Girls Round *3*
The very latest breaking news.........
Yesterday I put together a nice little intro page with meanings and a bit of the history on Iolanthe, Isolde, Oriana & Odelia to see what Hubby thought -- he's interested in that stuff and sometimes it really helps if he can see what a name means right off. I figured Odelia had a great chance because back at the beginning of "The Search," Hubby said he really liked Ophelia except for the literary baggage. But, he said since then they've not "aged well," if you will, and he's decided he doesn't like ANY of the "O" names. NONE OF THEM. Argh!! Okay, well, how about Iolanthe, that one is sweet...no deal on that one either. I teased that he is a pain to work with and he returned the compliment, all in good humor, and we were mutually amused. It would be really bad if we were not keeping a sense of humor about this. We've been through it all before where we just can't seem to find a name both of us love, and it isn't a shock to us that the other spouse's taste is so vastly different than our own.
So this is basically where things stand: I don't LOVE Willow and he doesn't LOVE Scarlett (even though we've put together tons of gorgeous combos on both), and the combos on Gwyneth didn't help either of us (he never was totally on board with that one). This leaves us with...............no girl names both of us love. None. We have some that ONE of us loves and the other can live with, and that seems to be the best we can do.
I said that I was just going to pick a name and if the kid pops out a girl, we're naming her that. He says that under the circumstances, this probably makes as much sense as anything. Hah! He should have taken the "I'll pick a list of top five and you choose one" offer I made last month! No, actually I don't grudge the "journey" over the last month: I did learn some things through the process about what he likes and doesn't like. As much as he makes me crazy I do think he gives me good balance. I realize that I get name "crushes" that aren't necessarily well-advised in the long run. Last time, we had a crisis about 6 months into the pregnancy where we couldn't choose between his top pick, Quillan, and my top pick, Quade. As you all know, we settled on Peregrine (!). Looking back, he had the better pick, in spite of the fact that I kept hearing "quill and" which is what made me toss it. We found Peregrine by going back to the drawing board and re-considering the vast (though small compared to THIS search) lists of names we had eliminated early on.
Soooooo...I'm not really sure where to go with things from here. I guess I'll go ahead with combos on Iolanthe, if for no other reason than to get it out of my system...and then I don't know what. See if we can "promote" any of the middle names? Go back and read the original lists of suggestions? Read some new name books? Take a break for awhile?
Thanks for all your ideas, advice and encouragement, Berries!
