    I'd love to know what names you picked! Of your ones that got away, I love...

    Gabriel
    Leo
    Penelope
    Pearl

    Not so keen on...

    Abraham - Too biblical for me.
    Hal - Too nicknamey, but I like as a nn for Harold or Henry.
    Jeb - Too hokey and too nicknamey.
    Jed - See Jeb.
    Patrick - Every crazy kid I've ever taught has been named Patrick!
    Rowan - Nice enough name, but I just don't like it for some reason.

    Barbara - Too old-fashioned.
    Golda - See Barbara.

    Boys;
    Gabriel - I love Gabriel but shy away from it sometimes because I don't love Gabe. It's a great name though.
    Leo - I don't like Leo, I do like Leon or Leonardo/Leonidas though.
    Rowan - Love it, but love Ronan more.
    Jed - Nickname-y to me. Do like it, as a nickname for Jedidiah.
    Jeb - Like it less than Jeb but it's okay.
    Abraham - I like it. I'd call him Bram and never Abe for short though/
    Hal - Prefer Hale. Or using Hal as a NN for Henry/Harold, I think of Hal as a nickname.
    Patrick - Love it, so sad my husband won't let me use it.

    Girls;
    Golda - Love it. Family name to me. Really really old-fashioned but I don't hate it. Also like Marigold, NN Goldie.
    Penelope - Love it to bits.
    Pearl - Dislike. Like a lot of other gemstone names more. Opal, Peridot, even my not-favourite Ruby...
    Barbara - Can't deal with Barbara, sorry.

    Boys;
    Gabriel (lifelong favourite)-I really like this one.
    Leo (ditto)-I like it but part of me wants it to be a nickname for a longer name yet not really loving the longer forms of it
    Rowan-I think more girl with this name.
    Jed-Too biblical and I'm not a fan of nickname names.
    Jeb-Same as Jed
    Abraham-It's all right but I'm not fond of the nickname Ham so I would stick to Abe for a nickname.
    Hal-I'd like it as a nickname for Henry.
    Patrick (being used as a middle)-I LOVE it! It's my son's name. Although he probably fits into the crazy kid category that sarahmezz mentioned.

    Girls;
    Golda-Not a fan seems
    Penelope-Beautiful name
    Pearl (being used as a middle)-I really like this one although I think it is really great as a middle name.
    Barbara-I think of Barbara Bush and I don't know of any nicknames for it that I like at all.
    Mother to: Patrick Werner (3/10) and Mary Claire (06/12)

    I like these ones:
    Gabriel (lifelong favourite)
    Leo (ditto)
    Rowan

    Penelope

    The others are too short or dated for my taste. Would love to know what you used.
