I like Gypsy Rose better as a middle name as well as I think Gypsy is a little too strong a statement to give a child as a first name. It is nice though.
Why not combine Rose and May to get Rosemary or Rosey

but on the original question of Lavender-May vs Gypsy-Rose... I prefer Gypsy-Rose.
    It seems almost magical

I don't like Rosemary I like RoseMarie though.

Rosey is not a option as a cousins girlfriend called Rosie.

Did you know that Gypsy Rose Lee was a burlesque dancer who was famous for her striptease? That's the association many people will have with that name. Gypsy is also a derogatory term for the Roman or Romany people so I don't think it's appropriate. Lavender May is pretty but I don't like Lavender Kitcher very much. Neither name has the style of Amy-Louise.
    All the best,
    Mischa.
