Question I've got a question for you Berries. How would you spell it?

With the start of school has come the new list of preschoolers I'll be teaching this year. While some have had creative spellings (Brytnea?) only one has really stumped me. I saw on my list a girl named Leila. Now, most of us would pronounce that LAY-la, I think. Another teacher called her LEE-la, though, so I wanted to hear her mother say it, and I'm very glad I did. This particular little girl's name is pronounced Lee-EYE-la. I think it's a beautiful name - gorgeous, really - but I have to wonder... Isn't there a better way to spell it so that it's not constantly mispronounced? So I'm putting the question out there to you berries. How would you have spelled Lee-EYE-la?

You're right-- I would pronounce it Layla.

    Lee-EYE-la? Gosh, that's tricky. Lee-Ayla? Liayla?

Pretty sure she just made that pronunciation up out of thin air. Layla/Leila used to be my favorite name and I researched the heck out of it, and I've never come across that pronunciation. Crazy!

Leailah. Phonetically, I think that might be correct; (ea) as in read and (ilah) as in Delilah. Pretty pronunciation, but too diffucult and inauthentic for my own taste. Besides, I love plain ol' Laila, pronunciation and all : )
