I LOVE Shepherd, but I prefer it as a MN. It's just a bit too out-there for me personally, and I am not crazy for Shep (it sounds like a dog's name to me, sorry!). I would love to see Samuel Shepherd, though. I think that'd be fab. But I would be tickled pink to meet a little boy named Shepherd.

Shep = ugh. Shepherd is nice enough, but just because you know a lot of Samuels doesn't mean you shouldn't use that name. Your kid doesn't need a unique name to be special. I was one of three with my first name in elementary school & no one ever saw us as a homogenous blob of Lilys, and the same went for all the Sams I knew. Sam/Sammy/Samuel is a classic, likable name. Never knew a Sam that was an asshat.

I'm not a fan. I see it on here quite a lot so I think it's quite popular on Nameberry. Shep is a dog name hands down.

I like it a lot. If anyone has a dog named Shep they have excellent taste. I say Shepherd over Samuel, hands down.
