It sounds like Derek is the British equivalent of Eugene, my 84-year-old grandfather's name---this is considered quite dated, but I've seen several Berries bring it up before.

Cora, pearl, clementine, Harriet, margot, Delphine. "Old" person or "cat" names which strangely are very popular at the moment and on nb. I guess I am picky and only like a selection. Also overused names and combos Charlotte Grace, Maddison Rose lovely but add to the dozens of other Charlotte Graces if you know what I mean. Also Rae and jays as middles.
    My two precious girls:

    Sophir@ Li

    Av@leigh Beth Gwendolyn

    Other name combinations I like:

    Seth Daniel

    Lilah Belle Glory

-Addison, Mason, Avery, Asher, Madison, Everly, Wyatt, Campbell, Parker, Jace, and Brooklyn.
    - Overtly religious names. I know too many people who are atheists now, but were raised by religious parents who named them Ezekiel, Jesus, Christian, etc. Especially with more people becoming nonreligiuos, it seems a little short-sighted, and if nothing else it's like just crossing your fingers and hoping real hard your kids decide to follow the same religion as you forever.
-Any name that has -leigh on the end, or any case of adding letters for the sake of adding letters like 'h' on the end or 'y' in the middle just to make it "yooneek". It just looks misspelled.
-Pop culture names. Now there's a difference between a pop culture name and a musical or literary reference, and that is determined on how lasting the cultural impact is. If a book or music group maintains a strong enough influence for a decade or more- like LOTR, Harry Potter, or Shakespeare, things that became engrained in our daily culture and weathered the test of time. I feel sorry for everyone named Katniss or Renesmee who are going to live every day with yesterday's trends.
-Names that definitively shackle your baby to another persons legacy, like Lennon, McCartney, Hendrix, and Hemingway. Sure you might like the ideas of the music or literature, but you're not thinking about Hendrix's drug addiction, Hemingway's abusive alcoholism and crippling suicidal depression, and Lennon's history of infidelity and chronic physical abuse of women. If you're planning on honoring someone's legacy, at least give them a way out, like John or Ernest, something that isn't so irrefutably bound to another person.

One's I don't "get" in real life and those I don't "get" on nameberry are very different, because I've never met anyone with a lot of the names that are popular here.

In real life, I don't get the boys names on girls: Jamison, Wilder, Riley, etc. I'm waiting for the day I meet a girl named Gideon or Zachary or Peter.

I also don't get why everyone seems to love 87 spellings of the same 10 names. It truly makes me want to slap someone:

On Nameberry, it's mostly the names that I can't see as fresh and new or names that I find difficult or awkward to pronounce:
    Agatha , Agnes , Aurelia , Claudette , Eliora , Elodie , Eloise , Elsa/Elsie , Emmeline , Esme , Freya , Georgia , Maude , Phyllis , Tallulah , Tempest , Vivienne

I'm also not fond of a lot of the feminizations that are coming back into style. There's just so many lovely girls names out there, why do you have to make a boys name a girls name. This applies equally to Taylor and to Theodora in my head
    Livy/Lucy : Geneva/Gwen : Coralie/Alice : Noelle/Eve
    Eli/Bennett : Jude/Zane: Luke/Leo : Levi/Phineas
