I'm religious, and while I would assume that a Gideon or a Malachi came from a religious family, I wouldn't be startled or offended to find out otherwise. Even when I considered myself agnostic I still loved Biblical names. For me then, it was about honoring my family's religious heritage (almost entirely Southern Baptist) and the major role that faith played in the lives of my family. But if you just think that Gideon and Malachi are awesome names (which they are), then I don't see any reason why you, as an atheist, can't use them.Emily, 19, Southeastern US.
