Would Esmond be confused for Desmond?

I'm really crushing on Esmond today, but here's my question: do you think Esmond would constantly be mistaken for Desmond? I think the absence of the "D" is pretty obvious, but what do you think?

When speaking? I think yes. I've never heard of the name Esmond before, so if someone introduced themselves and said, "Hi, I'm Esmond." There's a good chance I'd say, "Desmond?"
    Written it's obviously pretty clear.

I was confused and thought you misspelled Edmond or left the D off Desmond
