Laela or Lela for baby #3?
Tucker and Mollie are having a baby sister and she needs a name! My husband and I had agreed on Laela (or Laila/Leila...pronounced Lay-la) until we realized how popular it is (spelling Layla around #30 in 2012). We also like Lela (pronounced Lee-la) which was a name our children had for an imaginary friend they frequently talked about. It grew on us and it's a rare name, but we can't decide which one to use.
Laela or Lela...What do you think?

I chose Laela… with a caveat. Go with Leila or Layla spelling. Changing the spelling doesn't make it less popular, it just makes it look made up. While Laela is not the worst spelling I've ever seen, it is still gonna give your daughter headaches to explain.
Think of it this way: when you yell it across a playground, it's gonna sound the same, whether you spell it Laela, Layla, Leila or Laila. At least go with the accepted national spelling, Leila, or the accepted American spelling, Layla.
Other than that, I love the name, it's been one of my favorites since I was 13 and it's popular for a reason.- current loves -

Despite it being popular, to me Layla is the best. It looks right imo, the others all look too creative/made up
