    Most popular names - birth announcements from my local hospital

    Spent the morning weeding through the last 500 babies born at my local hospital (midwestern U.S.). It was an interesting exercise in regional variation! Here are the top names for boys and girls. I've also listed some of the more kre8tiv spellings I came across.

    Carly (6) -- including spelling Carli -- so interesting, considering that Carly didn't even chart in the top 100 in my state!

    Matthue, Koert, Kalven and Machenzie, really? Who comes up with these spellings? Some spelling changes are okay, but these are kind of crazy.
