Thread: Questionable Ads/
June 21st, 2013 07:24 AM #1
I don't want to sound like a prude, and I understand that ads are necessary on the site. St. Jude's Children's Fund? Yes. L.L. Bean? Sure. But, Sexy Arab Girls? Heading down a path I'd rather not see become a regular part of Nameberry. Is the content of those banner ads something you have control of?

I don't think NB has control of their content as I believe they're sometimes controlled by Google depending on data they've gathered from your online activity. I often see ads relating to online shops I've recently been on or things broadly related to stuff I've Googled. Not saying you've been Googling Sexy Arab Girls! But they do try and tailor it to you. Have you got AdBlock? Or can you 'mute' the advert by clicking an 'x' in the corner? If so, it brings up a little thing about Google and you can go in and change your 'Ad Preferences'. Try clearing your cookies/internet history too and it might go back to showing more palatable ads...

Installing AdBlock is one of the best things I've ever done online.♂ | Samuel ◊ Edward ◊ George ◊ Arthur ◊ Ezra ◊ Dean ◊ Micah ◊ Gideon ◊ Tobias ◊ Jasper

What?!? That's outrageous. If anyone sees an ad they find offensive, can you please click through and post the url here or send it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Parents is our new ad partner and they can block ads we ask them to, but only if we have the url to send them.
And yeah, the problem is that once you click the Sexy Arab Girls ad, you'll then be carrying around a "sexy arab girls" cookie and you want to offload that asap by clearing your browsing data.
