    Regis

What are your initial thoughts on the name Regis for a boy? What kinds of attributes do you assign to the name? Can you think of any possible way it can be made fun of or any reason not to use it?

My DH and I are expecting baby #4, a boy, on Sept 1. We have three little girls, Reagan, Avery, and Paige. Our last name is Thompson. We are seriously divided on names. My short list included the names Graham and Henry...DH doesn't care for them (but doesn't hate them and I will fight for Graham until this baby takes his first breath). If he had his way he would name our son Aiden, which I would never in a million years choose.

Regis is one that we both kind of agree on, but we also agree that it is a risk because it's so rare. It does have special meaning, as someone quite beloved to us is named Regis (he is in his 80s). I will admit that I am NOT looking forward to obnoxious family members pointing out the correlation to Regis Philbin.

Please give us your honest thoughts!

Honestly, my only association/thought on Regis is Regis Philbin. I'm not a fan of the sound of the name itself, but aside from that, if the association doesn't bother you, I don't think it's unusable necessarily.

Googling tells me Regis Philbin is a talkshow host or something?

My honest opinion is that regardless of any association with public figures (and you need to decide if it bothers you or not ) Regis is too close to Reagan... But it makes me think 'king' so if you want to honour the special Regis you know, I would suggest:

    Leroy
    Royce
    Rex
Reg (guess it depends if you like nicknames as names, Reginald if don't)
I think the NN Roy is adorable for Leroy or Royce.

You both seem to like celitc sounding names for your boy, so aside from the Regis connection, Graham and Aiden make me think of:
    Blair
    Cormac
    Darragh
    Connor
    Tavish
    Gareth
    Kieran
    Callum
    Lachlan
    Boyd
    Bede
    Colin
    Douglas
    Duncan
    Katie
Happily married to a fabulous but completely-not-interested-in-names guy.

I immediately thought of Philbin... it's so rare, and there's only 1 famous Regis (that I know of), so most people will mention him. I also think Regis and Reagan are much too close to use. Graham and Henry are a thousand times better than Regis.
